On November 26, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the Embassy of Canada in China jointly hosted a reception celebrating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada in Beijing. Yang Wanming, President of the CPAFFC; Cai Wei, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs; Shen Xin, Vice President of the CPAFFC; and Jennifer May, Ambassador of Canada to China, together with representatives from various sectors of both countries totaling more than 100, attended the event. President Yang Wanming and Ambassador Jennifer May delivered remarks respectively.

President Yang Wanming said that China and Canada may be separated by vast oceans, but the friendly exchanges enjoy a long-standing history. The moving stories of Dr. Norman Bethune have become a symbol of China-Canada friendship. Under the strategic guidance of the important consensus reached at the meeting between the leaders of the two countries in Gyeongju, China-Canada relations are turning around toward an upward trend. In the future, China stands ready to work with Canada to implement the important consensus reached by the two countries' leaders through concrete actions, establish an objective and rational perception, view each other from a correct perspective, advance the development of bilateral relations for the common, long-term interests of the two countries, and make joint efforts to bring China-Canada relations back on the right track of healthy, stable and sustainable development at an early date for the greater benefits of the two peoples.

Jennifer May noted that the 55th anniversary of China-Canada diplomatic ties marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations. Recently, the leaders of the two countries held a successful meeting, reaching consensus on restoring and resuming exchanges and cooperation in various fields and advancing the resolution of specific economic and trade issues of mutual concern. On the basis of this important consensus, the diplomatic and economic teams of the two countries have maintained continuous interactions and have already achieved multiple pragmatic outcomes. Canada attaches great importance to its economic and trade relationship with China and stands ready to work together with China to consolidate the positive momentum in the improvement of bilateral relations, further deepen cooperation in various fields, and steadily advance the Canada-China strategic partnership.

During the reception, artists and students from China and Canada presented wonderful cultural performances.
