On November 26, President Yang Wanming of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) met with Ahmad Berwari, the newly appointed Ambassador of Iraq to China. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on strengthening people-to-people friendship and cooperation between China and Iraq in various fields.
President Yang Wanming welcomed Ambassador Berwari to the CPAFFC and noted that Iraq was one of the first Arab countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China and remains China's long-standing, cherished friend. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Iraq strategic partnership as well as the 10th anniversary of the signing of Belt and Road cooperation documents between the two countries. Over the past decade, bilateral relations have enjoyed sound and steady development, yielding fruitful outcomes in practical cooperation across various fields. Iraq has become an important partner for China in Belt and Road cooperation.
President Yang Wanming noted that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee was held in Beijing recently, unveiling a grand blueprint for China's development over the next five years and charting the course for advancing Chinese modernization. China will steadfastly promote high-quality economic and social development, expand high-standard opening up, and continue sharing development opportunities with all countries. The CPAFFC attaches great importance to people-to-people friendship and cooperation with Iraq and stands ready to work closely with the Embassy of Iraq in China and friendly personages from all sectors of Iraq to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries and contribute to the development of China-Iraq strategic partnership.
Berwari congratulated the successful Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and noted that Iraq and China are both ancient civilizations, and have a deep-rooted traditional friendship between their peoples. Iraq attaches great importance to relations with China and closely follows China's development achievements.
